There’s a New SUV in Town

Fresh and hot on the market is the new unveiling of the new Volkswagen three-row, 7 passenger vehicle at the Detroit auto show.

Volkwagen's CrossBlue Plug-in Diesel Electric Car

Presently, the Volkswagen only has 2 SUVs on the market, the Tiguan and the Touareg. However, those vehicles only seat five passengers. It’s great timing for Volkswagen as it’s only current three-row vehicle, the Routan minivan, will have hot competition from the revamp of the Dodge Grand Caravan.

Made in America

The new model SUV is slated to compete against leaders in the third row SUV like the Honda Pilot. It will also be based on the American Passat platform, which will allow VW to build the new car at its Chattanooga, Tennessee plant.

VW has been making efforts to expand its production at the American based Passat plant. They have recently hired for an additional third shirt and increased annual production by 30,000 cars in 2013.

Plush Luxuries

It’s very likely that Volkswagen will offer the new SUV with plush Passat style luxury with a front and all-wheel drive option. Certain powertrain options include the 3.6-liter VR6 and the 3.0-liter TDI V6 like that in the five passenger Touareg. The model is going to reflect a true SUV and less cross over type features.
As the unveiling in January 2013 at the Detroit car show approaches, you’ll be sure to expect to see it at local Volkswagen show rooms.
